This is a grateful followup to the Celebrate Reading Festival at the University of Hawaii/Maui campus, where I was a guest April 18-19 with readings from “Aloha, Mozart.” Together we were two novelists, a YA writer, and a journalist for four sessions of standing-room only enthusiasm by Maui residents, started off by the outstanding performance poet, Kealoha. People also showed real outer island hospitality, a reminder of how I grew up and how my own manners have slipped a little.
The Philadelphia connection came last week when a friend from my Ragdale Foundation residency in 2011 sent this photo. She lives in the city, was downtown walking in Rittenhouse Square, and saw my novel in the window of a library. It’s the book’s first very welcome appearance on the faraway East Coast.
